WA’s latest winners from Falcon and the South West

While most of us are returning to work a little bit poorer after a festive long weekend, one Saturday Lotto winner is coming off the public holiday more than half a million dollars richer.

The winning ticket, which remains unclaimed, was purchased from Miami Newsagency in Falcon.

“Most people find it hard to get back to work after a long weekend but you couldn’t keep me away now that I’ve sold a Division 1 winning ticket,” Cindy Chen, owner of Miami Newsagency, said.

And if that wasn’t a lucky enough start to the week, our Set for Life winners have finally come forward to claim their prize.

A couple from the South West were revealed to be the owners of the winning QuickSET6, which was purchased on a whim from The Gallery of Claremont on Monday 8 January.

“We were shopping in the big smoke and I don’t know what came over me but I stopped, bought a ticket, rubbed it on the Buddha and hoped for the best,” the wife said.

Though the happy couple are elated about their 1st Prize win – $20,000 a month for the next 20 years – the husband admits he was more than a little nervous when his wife broke the news to him.

“When she first sat me down I thought – what have I done now?” he said.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone said the country couple were the fourth Set for Life 1st Prize winners this year nationally.

“Set for Life has been on fire this year,” Ms Compagnone said.

“Not only do games like this change the lives of people like our winners from the South West, the funds raised support WA’s hospitals, sporting and arts groups, as well as hundreds of not-for-profit organisations,” she added.

Tickets to tonight’s Set for Life and Monday Lotto draws are available until 6pm from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.
