Powerball powers to $55 million jackpot

Time is ticking away to the fourth largest Powerball jackpot in Australian Lotto history with $55 million up for grabs on Thursday.

Although no player has managed to take home the multimillion Division 1 prize pool as yet, almost 250,000 WA players have picked up a Powerball prize in the game’s other Divisions over the last seven week jackpot roll.

If history is anything to go by, WA could be in with a good chance this week. Last year, WA ended the year with 70 Division 1 Lotto winners sharing in over $130 million.

Last to strike Powerball luck was Carousel Lottery Centre & News in Cannington.

The store sold a winning ticket worth $6 million in August last year which was claimed by an Armadale family.

Owner of the store Grace Chong said she couldn’t explain how good it felt to produce a multimillion winning ticket which was set to change someone’s life for the better.

“It honestly had felt like I’d won too!” she said.

“I remember telling the lucky player the news face-to-face and she just dropped to the floor,” she added.

“She then stuffed the winning ticket into her bra to keep it safe.”

Ms Chong said last year saw her store produce two Division 1 winning Lotto tickets in just six months.

“I put our luck down to good customer service and loyal customers,” she said

When you play Lotterywest games, the money stays in WA. Over the Powerball jackpot roll, almost $4 million has been raised to support the WA community – and this Thursday’s draw is set to raise a further $2 million.

Tickets are available until 6pm jackpot day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford. The cost of a ticket can be shared by joining with family, friends or work colleagues to form a syndicate.
