Not even a Lotto win stops the footy

AFL may be our national competition, but how many people can say they would keep watching a game after discovering their Saturday Lotto ticket had turned into almost $800,000?

This was the case for one Lathlain man, who has come forward as the owner of a Saturday Lotto ticket from the draw on 25 May, worth $790,203.

While watching the football at home, the man in his 70s decided to check his ticket from Archer Street Newsagency in Carlisle during the half-time break.

“I ticked off all the numbers, I went back to watching the footy, what else was I going to do?” he said.

“I didn’t go mad, I just kept it to myself, but mind you I was a little dazed afterwards.”

A new house is on the cards, along with a long overdue holiday.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said a second winner from the 25 May Saturday Lotto draw is yet to come forward.

“We are still waiting for the owner of a ticket sold at Woolworths Karratha to visit Lotterywest’s head office and claim their $790,200 prize,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“Western Australians have two more chances to win big this week with Powerball at $12 million and OZ Lotto a massive $50 million, so make sure you grab your tickets early.”

When people play with Lotterywest, proceeds from sales go back to community organisations such as Carlisle’s Nardine Wimmins Refuge, which recently received a $55,000 Lotterywest grant towards supporting women and children experiencing financial hardship.
