No joke for WA’s latest millionaires

When a Parmelia couple overheard the news a winning ticket worth more than $1.3 million had been sold in their area, the jokes began to fly.

“I heard someone in Kwinana had won, so I went around telling everyone it was me,” she said.

“Eventually I checked the ticket, however I actually missed the line with the winning numbers.

“My son was looking over my shoulder and said “Mum, look, they are the numbers.

“I guess the joke was on me in the end.”

The ticket, worth more than $1.3 million, was sold at The Kwinana Hub Lottery Centre and News, with the winning numbers 8, 45, 6, 2, 39, 36 with supplementary numbers 5 and 13.

The couple said they planned to wipe off debt and look after their children and grand kids.

“Perhaps a Harley for every day of the week would be nice,” the man in his 50s joked.

Kwinana Hub Lottery Centre and News Owner Peter Andersson said it was wonderful to celebrate a local win.

“We always want to see our locals have a win, and we’ve been here for 19 years and this is now our 13th Division One prize,” he said.

May has been a prosperous month for Western Australian players with a Division One winner from every Saturday Lotto draw so far.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said there have been a variety of winners across WA.

“It’s been fantastic to meet a range of prize winners this month from foster carers to Lego enthusiasts,” Ms Coleman said.

“WA players have another chance to win big this week, as OZ Lotto has jackpotted to $15 million so make sure you grab your ticket before 6pm Tuesday.”

Saturday’s win has now taken WA’s Division One winners tally to 24.

In the past year, Lotterywest has supported the Kwinana area with more than $120,000 in grants from community events to emergency relief for people experiencing financial hardship.
