Million-dollar win claimed, ahead of $80 million jackpot

The owner of a Monday Lotto ticket worth $1 million has a ticket that cost just over $2 to thank for their life changing prize.

A Pilbara couple’s four game ticket with their Lotterywest membership online, matched the numbers to the Division One prize, which marked WA’s 47th win for the year.

“I got a call from a Perth number and thought here we go a scam or survey, but it was Lotterywest,” the winner said.

“It prompted me to check my numbers and it’s only now that we’re in the Winner’s Room is it real.”

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said focus is now on tonight’s $80 million Powerball jackpot, which is set to see a rush for tickets late in the day.

“The $80 million offer is the equal largest jackpot to be offered across the nation this year,” Mr Mooney said.

“We’re expecting ticket sales to peak this afternoon between 4pm and 5pm, where it’s anticipated more than 800 tickets will be sold every minute in WA.

“If one player takes home the entire $80 million prize, they will share the title of the third biggest lottery winner in Australian history.

“A single WA winner would become our biggest Lotto win in our State’s history.”

The current record for WA’s largest Lotto win was a $50 million Powerball prize in 2015 that went to a family in Perth’s southern suburbs.

Tickets for tonight’s $80 million Powerball jackpot are available from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
