A family from Kalgoorlie have made the long drive to claim their $3 million Powerball prize from last week.
The mother, who works at the Department of Education, said she’d discovered she’d won on the way out the door to work in the morning.
“I was stunned, but I was also running late for work,” she laughed.
“I said to my kids - “I better go because I’m going to be late
“I’m not sure how I even got there safely with my ticket. My colleague triple checked it with me and was so excited for us.”
The mother in her 50s, said they won’t be splurging their cash, but will be paying off their debts and setting their family up to live stress-free.
“We’re pretty down to earth, so this won’t change who we are!” she said.
“My husband has always wanted a little farm – so we can make that a reality now.”
“I’m really looking forward to helping out my stepfather in his later years - so he can live comfortably
“That’s really important to me.”
WA’s newest multimillionaires said they’d plan to keep on working.
“I really love my job and we’re both happy doing what we’re doing.”

The winning ticket was purchased from City News Kalgoorlie and is the first Division One win for the store.
Owner of the store Tania Parkes said she was delighted her store could give the life-changing news to the multimillionaires.
“We were already excited – but knowing it’s going to a local family makes it that much better.”
