Hot tips for Thursday’s $80M Powerball draw

Lotterywest has two hot tips for players hoping for a multi-million dollar windfall on Thursday night’s $80 million Powerball: Powerpik tickets and syndicates.

“We’ve crunched the numbers for WA Division One winners for the past 12 months and we found that almost half the winnings went to syndicates, whether formal ones, or informal syndicates among friends, families and work colleagues,” Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said.

"Of the $89 million won on Division One – across all Lotto games – in the past 12 months, $40.5 million, or just under half the total prize money was won by syndicates.

“With Powerball at an incredible $80 million, there is no doubt that is more than enough to go around!

“The second hot tip is to spend that pooled money on Powerpik entries. Powerpik gives you the Powerball, greatly improving the odds.”

Ticket types, “hot” numbers and suburbs

A great way to play Powerball is with a Powerpik ticket. It gives you the winning Powerball number, which increases your chances of winning since you need the Powerball number to win Division One and five of the other nine divisions.

  • We expect to sell more than half a million tickets in this draw, which equates to 1 in 4 Western Australians playing.
  • Between July 2018 to June 2019, the most frequent winning numbers from Barrel A were:
    • 17 (drawn 20 times)
    • 2, 11, 20, 29 (drawn 14 times each) and
    • 4, 7 and 22 (drawn 13 times each).

  • Most frequent winning numbers picked from Barrel B (the Powerball) are 19 (drawn 6 times), 3 (drawn 5 times) followed by 7, 13 and 20 (drawn 4 times each)

  • A Powerpik 7 is $24.

  •  Instore sales: 77% are Slikpiks, 22% of people choose their own numbers, about 3.5% of tickets are syndicates; 25% are system tickets (these can be Slikpiks or payslips).

  •  In 2018-19, the most popular tickets were Slikpik 12, Slikpik 18, Powerpik 7 followed by System 8 and Slikpik 25.
