Family celebrates $1.7 million Lotto win

Medina’s missing millionaire winner from late 2018 is a family of five from Perth’s northern suburbs.

The family’s daughter bought the lucky ticket from Medina Newsagency on a shopping trip.

The winning Saturday Lotto Megadraw ticket worth over $1.7 million was the first Lotto ticket the group had bought as a family, after a testing year.

“Our family had a pretty rough 2018,” the daughter said.

“On Christmas Eve we decided we’d all pitch in for a Slikpik 30 for the big draw.

“We bought it with the hope of having a better year.”

The family said they were dumbfounded when they checked the numbers online and realised they had won, but the feeling quickly turned to elation.

“I still get shivers knowing that we’ve won,” the daughter said.

“We celebrated together with champagne, a lot of tears and cheap Chinese for dinner.”

The prize will be going towards clearing mortgages, boosting retirement plans and a family holiday for the five of them.

This weekend Lotterywest celebrates 40 years of Saturday Lotto changing lives. Since the first Saturday Lotto draw in 1979, Western Australians have won millions in prizes and community grants.

In the past 10 years alone, Saturday Lotto players have shared in an average of $178 million a year in prizes, and $97 million a year in grants.
