Countdown to tonight’s $40 million Powerball jackpot

Lotto fever is surrounding Western Australia today as the countdown to tonight’s $40 million Powerball jackpot is on.

The more than 500 Lotterywest stores across the State are already reporting a busy start to the day, with over 400,000 tickets expected to be purchased by WA punters for tonight’s jackpot.

“Sales will peak between 4pm and 5pm this afternoon when around 460 tickets will churn from lottery terminals every minute,” said Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone.

According to Lotterywest, some of the most popular areas local players are picking up their Powerball tickets include Cloverdale, Baldivis, Karratha, Success and Morley.

Owner of Gateways News & Lotteries located in Success, Robyn McDermott, is no stranger to Lotto luck this year after selling two Division One winning tickets.

Luck first struck in February after a ticket sold at the store held a $2.1 million prize. This was followed by a winning ticket produced there just a month after worth $1 million.

“Success is a lucky name and we’ve definitely been a lucky suburb!” said Ms McDermott.

“I’m confident our next big win is just around the corner, with a little help from our lucky Buddhas instore.”

There’s no sign of the excitement slowing down, with another $20 million on offer in this weekend’s Saturday Lotto Superdraw, followed by a $50 million OZ Lotto jackpot on Tuesday.

So far this year, 31 WA players have taken home a Division One prize, sharing in almost $75 million.

Tickets in all three draws are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest instore, online or through the app.

When you purchase a Lotterywest ticket, all of WA wins with funds going back to local players in prizes and to the community in grants.

Last financial year, over $723* million was given back to the people of WA through prizes and grants.
