A Monday Lotto winner from the northern suburbs has got Western Australia’s Lotto luck rolling ahead of Thursday’s $110 million Powerball jackpot.
The $1 million winner bought their ticket from newsXpress Whitford City in Hillarys and is WA’s 32nd Division One win so far this year.
The as-yet-unclaimed ticket was the only Division One winner sold across the country.
Owner of newsXpress Whitford City, Jim Manifis, said he was delighted to find out his store had started off the record-breaking Lotto week with a Division One win.
“We’re pleased to be able to share this win with our local customers,” he said.
“Our lucky Buddha might have had something to do with the good luck.
“We hope we’ll get positive feedback and some more locals noticing our new Division One sign.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said anticipation was building across the State for the biggest jackpot Australia has ever seen, with this Thursday’s $110 million Powerball jackpot just days away.
“WA’s last Powerball winner was a mum from Kalgoorlie, who made the long drive to claim her $3 million prize a week after the draw in November last year,” she said.
“The mum discovered her win on the way out the door to work in the morning.
“She still went to work and was panicking because she was running a little late!
“Her husband had always wanted a little farm to retire to, so she was able to make that dream a reality, as well as look after her beloved stepfather in his later years.”
Lotterywest proudly supported the Whitford Community, Ratepayers and Recreation Association Incorporated in June this year with more than $70,000 towards a community bus for people in the Craigie, Padbury, Hillarys and Kallaroo area, to increase social and recreational opportunities for locals.
