A Western Australian Saturday Lotto player has spent more than two weeks walking around unaware of an extra $1 million in their pocket.
The ticket was sold from Warricks Newsagency in Northam for Saturday’s Million-Yeah draw in July.
The winner, a woman in her 40’s, said moments after learning about her Saturday Lotto win, she also discovered she was going to be a grandmother.
“I got a call from Lotterywest asking if I had checked my ticket,” she said.
“I didn’t think it was me, I’m one of those I’ll-wait-until-I-see-it types of people.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said this winner’s story was proof it paid to be a registered player.
“We have been waiting for more than two weeks to greet our Northam winner, so we decided to put in a call to help them discover their new fortune,” Ms Coleman said.
“A Division One winner from Karratha is yet to come forward, their Saturday Lotto ticket is worth around $790,000, but we can’t contact them as they’re not registered.”
In the past 12 months Lotterywest has given more than $40,000 in grants towards Northam.
This includes $10,000 towards Avon Youth Community and Family Services for a 12-month pilot project to improve school attendance rates in Northam.
