$70 million Powerball jackpot almost here

Time is ticking down to the second largest Powerball jackpot in history. It’s the second time that Powerball has powered to $70 million after reaching the same offer in November last year.

Although no player has managed to take home the Division 1 prize pool as yet, 432,478 WA players have picked up a Powerball prize in the game’s other Divisions over the last seven week jackpot roll.

If history is anything to go by, WA could be in with a good chance tomorrow night. Last year, WA players took home five Division 1 Powerball prizes totalling over $92 million.

Last to strike Powerball luck was Gateways News and Lottery Centre in Success. The outlet sold a winning ticket worth $23.3 million in November which was claimed by a young engaged couple from Cockburn.

Owner of the store Robyn McDermott said they had been run off their feet with customers travelling from far and wide to buy their tickets from the ‘lucky Lotto lady’.

“That’s the nickname they have given me. We’re positive and we never give up so we can absolutely do it again!” she said.

Around 700,000 tickets are expected to be sold across WA in tomorrow night’s $70 million Powerball jackpot.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the busiest hour was likely to be between 4pm and 5pm when close to 1,000 tickets were set to churn out of Lotterywest terminals each minute.

Tickets purchased in the Powerball jackpot will also help raise funds to support the WA community, with over $10 million already raised over the jackpot roll. The $70 million jackpot is set to raise another $4.5 million for local charity groups.

WA players have until 6pm tomorrow to purchase their tickets in-store, through Play Online and the Lotterywest App.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford. The cost of a ticket can be shared by joining with family, friends or work colleagues to form a syndicate.
