Meet Jenny and Emily, sisters and proud new owners of Mullaloo News and Lotteries.
After migrating to Australia with their family 18 years ago, last November they joined the Lotterywest network and started their first business together.
Also known as the ‘A team’ by their customers, Jenny and Emily work seven days a week, opening on a Sunday so their regulars can collect the paper.
Jenny said her previous experience has helped create good relationships with customers.
“My background in nursing taught me how to care for people, and deal with different personality types,” Jenny said.
“I believe service is most important in any business.”
Although it’s been hard work, and they’ve made mistakes along the way, Jenny said she enjoys her job and loves having her family around.
“My sons help us in the store, and I’m very happy we can all work together. They were shy at first but are getting to know customers and have even started making jokes!” Jenny said.
Jenny’s advice for new retailers is to think about how you communicate with customers, be happy and build positive relationships.
