Sick animals given Greener Pastures

A ‘Lambulance’ may be a cute play on words; however the mantra from Greener Pastures Sanctuary is more than a clever name.

Since 2013 the organisation has provided refuge for piglets, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and cattle in need.

The farm responds to hundreds of calls from concerned members of the public and veterinary clinics, providing rehabilitation for animals in need.

Founder of Greener Pastures Rachael Parker said thanks to Lotterywest their new van has helped ensure animals in their care are transported safe and sound.

“We have 170 animals on the property so you can imagine that’s a lot of visits back and forth to our vet hospitals,” she said.

Once the van pulled up at the farm, it wasn’t long before it was put into action.

“We literally got the Lambulance back from having all our decals put on and within five minutes I was back on the road to pick up a sheep and a goat that had been neglected,” Ms Parker said.

“The sheep had undergone a medical procedure that required further attention, and the goat had long term lameness.”

Scooter the goat and Freddie the sheep are now doing much better and are set to spend the rest of their days living the life at Greener Pastures.

Lotterywest CEO Susan Hunt PSM said this latest rescue was just one example of the benefits the Lambulance would bring to the Waroona farm.

“Lotterywest has been delighted to provide more than $50,000 towards an animal ambulance and upgrades to the facilities of Greener Pastures Sanctuary,” Ms Hunt said.

“To support a group which offers sick and neglected animals a second chance for a better life is heart-warming.”

The $50,534 grant is one of the more than $316,000 provided by Lotterywest to the Waroona community in the last 12 months.

Lotterywest funding to the area has included emergency relief for people experiencing financial hardship in Waroona, a multi-purpose facility at Preston Beach, and the 2018 Waroona Agricultural Show.
