Millennium Kids and Lotterywest prove web design is child’s play

Jacob Cassey is not your average teenager.

The 14-year-old has designed a new website for Millennium Kids - an organisation enabling the next generation to have their say about the environment and issues that matter to them.

The website will allow fellow participants to share feedback towards the various projects on display across the website.

“We worked on a grant with Lotterywest to help us get the money so we could actually do it,” he said.

“Once we got the grant we went to Media on Mars and they helped us produce the website.

“It’s been quite a long time since I started it so it feels great to accomplish it.”

Millennium Kids helps children to learn firsthand the skills required to achieve their goals, by giving them most of the responsibility.

A Lotterywest grant of $38,000 went towards website development, branding and project costs, helping to make Jacob’s dream possible.

It will be used as a tool to help Millennium Kids support the environment and sustainability-based education for children.

The website now features video content and easy to navigate functions to highlight upcoming events and projects.

The young gun’s efforts are even more laudable as he did it all in his spare time, not for a good grade in school.

Lotterywest CEO Susan Hunt commended Jacob and his fellow Millennium Kids participants.

“It’s inspiring to see young people like Jacob taking a constructive and hands-on approach to environmental issues,” Ms Hunt said.

“This $38,000 grant will allow Millennium Kids participants to securely connect online with mentors and drive change through their own environmental projects.

“We’re extremely fortunate in WA to have the only lottery in Australia, and one of the few in the world, where all the profits are returned back to the local community.

“Lotterywest is proud to support an organisation that’s offering a channel for kids to develop skills and express their views on the environment.”
