Lotterywest hits the right note with Voice Moves

As Perth’s winter passes, now is the time to warm up the vocal chords with World Singing Day (WSD) set for Saturday 19 October 2019 at Yagan Square. The day is a chance to for groups around the globe to unite in the biggest sing-along the world has ever seen.

By playing Lotterywest games, you have helped share the glee with a $4,420 grant to Voice Moves WA, which will provide a Welcome to Country, Auslan Sign Interpreters and marketing and equipment hire for the free event. World Singing Day Perth and Coordinator for Australian Events organiser Sue Ross said she was extremely grateful for this year’s grant.

“It means we can offer a repeated event for the people of Perth and provide a great event for the City,” she said.

“Singing together in events such as these really helps boost community connection and our many choirs across Perth have seen more singers join since we started hosting World Singing Day three years ago.

“People are starting to realise how important singing is for the mind and body."

Lotterywest Acting CEO Lorna Pritchard said the organisation was delighted to work with Voice Moves WA.

“It’s wonderful to support Voice Moves WA to make sure World Singing Day in Perth is inclusive for all,” Ms Pritchard said.

“Singing is a wonderful way to harmonise a community and it doesn’t matter if you can hold a note or not, this day is for everyone to enjoy.”

Participants will be encouraged to sing along to well-known, classic karaoke songs, with lyrics displayed on a giant 360-degree digital tower screen. World Singing Day is an annual global sing-along, held on the third Saturday in October, using the power of song to connect people and communities around the world. When you play with Lotterywest, you help bring Western Australian dreams to life.
