Lotterywest grants spread Christmas cheer

From lunches in the park to street parties, emergency relief and community breakfasts, Lotterywest grants will be spreading cheer all across Western Australia this Christmas.

Thanks to a $65,541 grant, Mission Australia will be able to make their annual Christmas Lunch in the Park one of their best ever – complete with care packs, gourmet meals, live entertainment and presents for the kids.

Mission Australia WA State Director, Jo Sadler, said the grant has meant that over 1,200 of Perth’s most vulnerable people will be able to sit down to a Christmas meal on the big day.

“Christmas Lunch in the Park provides a place for people who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness to come on Christmas Day to share a meal, companionship and access to vital support services,” Ms Sadler said.

“This event is only made possible through the generosity of supporters like Lotterywest, our volunteers and the people of the WA community,” she added.

In another feat of massive meal prep, people in need from the South Metro area will wake up to a free big breakfast on Christmas morning thanks to Centrepoint Church and a $20,000 grant.

A $1.4 million grant will help St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) deliver emergency relief initiatives over Christmas and into the New Year. Over the festive season they intend to deliver almost 1,500 hampers to those in need.

In Wagin, a $5,522 grant will help get the party started at the2017 Wagin Street Carnival and the streets of Quairading will be full of partygoers at the 2017 Community Christmas Street Party thanks to a $6,340 grant.

The celebrations even make it all the way to Scarborough, where the final touches are being made to their free festive celebration 2017 Christmas at Scarborough – made possible by a $5,000 grant.

These wonderful community activities – which will help spread some Christmas cheer and provide hope to those experiencing hardship over the festive season – would not be possible without our Lotterywest retailers and those who play Lotterywest games.

Thank you for giving back this Christmas.
