Elaine doesn’t take Lotterywest for granted

Before her role at Lotterywest she was part of the not-for-profit sector in regional WA.

“It’s very humbling, they’re these amazing people doing remarkable things with no time, no money, but they know their work with community is needed,” Ms Walsh said.

“Some of them work in really traumatic areas or situations and they’re still coming up with a smile on their face.

“The impact of a $3,000 grant can sometimes be more rewarding than when you’re dealing with the larger requests, you can really see the difference it makes to that local community or group.”

Ms Walsh says she’s proud to be part of the only lottery in Australia and one of the few in the world, where all the profits are returned back to the community.

“We’re grant development officers, so we develop a relationship with the people that can span over years,” Ms Walsh said.

“In other organisations a grant customer may put in an application and wait for a yes or a no, with us we will work with a customer to reach the best outcome for the community.

“We also travel throughout the state to understand customer and community needs which can be confronting at times but mostly rewarding.”

Lotterywest’s Grants team recognises the value of working with grant recipients in developing applications to help achieve a wider or deeper impact .
