Wrong ticket leads to million-dollar windfall

A northern suburbs couple have an honest mistake to thank for their Wednesday Lotto ticket from Kingsley Newsagency, that's turned them into an instant millionaire.

The winner said she always opts for a Slikpik 12 when buying any Lotto game, but the retailer accidentally issued her a Slikpik 18,  which is now worth $1 million.

“I said to her that it was fine and lucky I did because the line that won was line 14,” she said.

“When I went to check my ticket, the retailer said I had to contact Lotterywest.

“I thought this was highly unusual, so we checked it online when we got home and realised we’d won.

“We were, and still are, completely flabbergasted.”

The retirees said they planned to help their children with their mortgages and celebrate with a tavern dinner.

Meanwhile a woman from the southern suburbs has come forward as the owner of the $2 million Division One prize from Coolbellup Newsagency. The multi-million-dollar winning ticket struck lucky in last weekend’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said there was a chance to become one of 10 instant millionaires just around the corner, with this month’s Million-Yeah Saturday event on 28 November.

“Million-Yeah Saturday gives up to 10 winners the chance to win $1 million each,” she said.

“You can pick up a Slikpik 12 for under $10, which is great value, however, we encourage all our players to only spend what you can afford – if you’re in it, you’re in with a chance to win.”

Tickets are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
