Search for missing WA Lotto winner over

On the same day as a $50 million Powerball jackpot draw, the hunt for a missing Western Australian Division One winner is over.

A retired couple from Cannington has come forward, almost three weeks since the draw, to claim their $672,883 prize.

The couple, who’s winning ticket was for a Saturday Lotto draw held on 14 July, said they’d simply misplaced the ticket.

“I changed handbags and put the ticket inside an envelope, in a drawer,” the woman said.

“I just forgot I’d put it there and it wasn’t until I was finally contacted by Lotterywest, as I’m a member, that I went looking for the ticket.”

Meanwhile, WA could be welcoming its largest Lotto winner for the year and equal largest in the State’s history following tonight’s $50 million Powerball jackpot.

If tonight’s entire $50 million Division One prize pool is taken out by a WA player, it will match the record as the highest WA Lotto prize, won in 2015.

According to Lotterywest, the Powerball jackpot is proving popular amongst players across the State.

“Close to half a million tickets will be purchased in WA for the $50 million Powerball jackpot,” said Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone.

“With tickets sales expected to peak between 4pm and 5pm today when 600 tickets will churn from Lotterywest terminals each minute, we encourage players to get their tickets early.

“They have until 6pm tonight.”

So far this year, 31 WA players have taken home a Division One with the largest a $20 million Powerball win in March.

Jackpot frenzy is set to continue with an incredible $70 million OZ Lotto jackpot goes up for grabs on Tuesday.

It’s the largest jackpot offer in over two years and the fourth largest in Australian history.

Tickets in all draws are available from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford. The cost of a ticket can be shared by joining with family, friends or work colleagues to form a syndicate.
