Scratchie win comes at the perfect time

A Kalgoorlie woman’s $50,000 win couldn’t have come at a better time after missing out on a new job because of COVID-19.

The woman, in her 30’s, managed to secure a new role in the finance sector, but right before she could start her job the position was frozen.

Soon after she discovered her $3 Word Play Scratch’n’Win ticket from Boulder Newsagency and Lotto matched up.

“It’s come at a really good time, it’s life changing,” she said.

“I thought I had won around $1000 at first, but it turns out I missed a letter, which meant I had won the top prize.

“I can keep paying my mortgage and I finally paid off my car.”

Thanks to WA players who purchased a Lotterywest ticket, funds have also been raised to contribute to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

All available profits from Lotterywest tickets, excluding statutory grants, will go towards the Fund which supports organisations and people experiencing hardship due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, this weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw has jackpotted for the first time in almost four years following the weekend.

“As no one across the country matched the winning numbers in the weekend’s draw, Saturday Lotto has jackpotted to $8 million,” Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said.

“This is a pretty rare and special event!

“The last time Saturday Lotto jackpotted was in 2016 - in fact it’s only the eighth time this has happened since the mid-1980s.” (ends) Media Enquiries: Pina Compagnone &
