Broken watch turns into $75,000

A broken watch helped one Scratch’n’Win player clock a $75,000 win.

The $5 Super Word Play ticket was bought from Winners Circle in Belmont.

The winner plans to pay off her unit and help out her children.

“I went to get the battery changed in my watch. It was cheaper than I thought so I also got a scratchie,” the woman from Redcliffe said.

“It was a spur of the moment decision and the best thing I ever did.”

Despite the win, the winner said she would not be buying a new watch.

Lotterywest spokesperson Hermione Coleman said she hoped the win would be a timely reminder for WA players about Tuesday’s OZ Lotto draw.

“OZ Lotto has jackpotted to $40 million and we would love to see WA’s 45th Division One winner in the Winners Room,” Ms Coleman said.

“It’s also important to note when you play Lotterywest games you’re helping to bring WA dreams to life.

“Thanks to our players, the past year alone has seen more than $470,000 worth of grants go towards community groups in Belmont.”

Tickets for Tuesday's $40 million OZ Lotto draw can be bought until 6pm on draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.
