- $281.41 million returned to the Western Australian community
- Record year of winners with $600.95 million worth of prizes delivered to winners
The Western Australian community continues to be the big winner from Lotterywest with the announcement today by Lotterywest Chair Heather Zampatti of another year of outstanding sales results and returns to the community.
“Thanks to the continued support of West Australians playing Lotterywest Games, the nation’s only State run Lottery continues to provide significant, ongoing support to our local community,” said Ms Zampatti.
“This support means Lotterywest has returned $281.41 million to the West Australian community in the past financial year, through direct grants and statutory allocations.”
Lotterywest gave 963 direct grants totalling $118.86 million to 814 not-for-profit organisations and local government associations, with a statutory allocation of $162.57 million provided to hospitals, sports and the arts.
In addition to the amount of money returned to the WA community, Lotterywest has delivered a record breaking year of Division 1 and First Prize winners, which has included some of the State’s biggest wins in Lotto history.
This has included a $50 million prize, the largest ever won in the State, and a $40 million prize, sold in Harvey and won by a struggling family from the State’s South West.
In total Western Australians have won $600.95 million in prize money, which has included a total of $270.04 million in Division 1 and First Prize Lotto prizes. This represents an increase in Division 1and First Prizes of 72 per cent compared to the previous financial year.
“Lotterywest has won a special place in the heart of all Western Australians for the wide ranging community support it provides through grants.”
“This support is only possible thanks to WA Lotto players who purchase Lotterywest Games and ensure that WA continues to win big.”
One of the organisations to benefit from significant Lotterywest support in the last financial year is the WA Health Translation Network which received a Lotterywest Grant of $3.2 million.
The grant provides support to the Network, which brings together all of the State’s universities, hospitals and medical research institutes to improve practical health outcomes for the WA public through a collaborative, consumer focused approach.
The Lotterywest Grant will support the establishment of the Consumer Community Health Advocacy Network which will allow health consumers to play a direct role in the future direction of health research.
