WA’s Megadraw millionaires arrive just ahead of $70 million Powerball jackpot

7 January 2016

More of last weekend’s $30 million Saturday Lotto Megadraw winners have claimed their prizes leaving only three shares of a ten share syndicate to collect $200,762 each.

A couple from Fremantle are still trying to process the $2 million they won on a ticket they purchased at South Terrace Newsagency in Fremantle.

“We checked the numbers about 400 times each and just sat there staring at each other for a while, it still doesn’t seem real,” said the winners.

“It just hasn’t sunk in for us but that might change when we see all those zeros in our bank account.”

The couple are hoping to ‘set themselves up for life’, pay off their mortgage and have a bit more flexibility on a planned holiday.

“There’s so much possibility now, we’re pretty pumped but we won’t be getting big heads,” said the man.

An elderly lady from Kenwick has also claimed her $2 million Megadraw win from the ticket she purchased at Warricks Newsagency in Northam while on holiday.

“It was a great way to start 2016; I knew this was going to be my year!” said the winner.

The woman said her property would be the big winner from her $2 million prize and plans to do lots of renovations and also upgrade her car.

“I thought I would need to draw from my super to get my house up to scratch but now I can pay for it outright. It’s amazing,” she said.

Lotterywest is still waiting on three syndicate share winners to come forward, each set to collect $200,762. These shares were purchased at the following stores:

• Good News Newsagency, Kambalda
• Northbound News & Lotto, Carnavon
• Kingfisher Newsagency, Bull Creek

It’s not only WA’s Lotto winners who benefit following a draw, the local community benefits too with 34 cents out of every dollar spent on Lotterywest Games going back to support the WA community.
Groups to receive this support include the Fremantle Bridge Club who were given a $10,297 Lotterywest Grant late last year. Funds have helped to purchase equipment and furniture to support members and visitors to learn and further develop their bridge playing skills.

Only hours until tonight’s $70 million Powerball jackpot

Tonight is not only the first Powerball draw for 2016; it’s also the equal second largest jackpot offer in the game’s 20 year history.

Powerball’s $70 million jackpot offer is the result of no one across the nation matching the game’s six winning numbers plus the Powerball for the past seven weeks.

Lotterywest retailers are already reporting a busy start to the day, with close to 700,000 tickets excepted to be sold across WA in tonight’s jackpot draw.

Last year, five lucky WA players had a Division 1 Powerball win sharing in over $92 million worth of prize money.

Players have until 6pm tonight to purchase tickets for the $70 million jackpot in-store, through Play Online and the Lotterywest App.
