The beauty of Broome makes an overnight Lotto millionaire

21 July 2015

Right off the bat of two WA weekend Division 1 Lotto winners, another lucky local has taken out Division 1 in last night's Monday Lotto draw.

The $1 million winning ticket was sold at Chinatown Newsagency in Broome and was the only Division 1 winner across the nation.

Owner of Chinatown Newsagency, Nescia Hick, thinks it's the combination of good staff and the beauty of Broome that has contributed to the store's ongoing luck.

"Broome is relatively small so the news is spreading fast. People have been rushing in to check their tickets hoping they are the new millionaire," said Nescia.

The last Division 1 Lotto ticket sold at Chinatown Newsagency was less than two years ago - a Saturday Lotto ticket worth $472,444.

"The second best thing to winning Lotto myself, is selling a Division 1 winning ticket to my customers, we're very happy," said Nescia.

Chinatown Newsagency is expecting a busy week following the win and said they're aiming to make another player a Lotto winner again soon.

"We're already lucky to live up here so I think we can definitely spread that luck into selling more Division 1 winners. There are some big jackpots coming up and we'd love to make it happen again!" said Nescia.

$65 million worth of jackpots on offer this week!

With tonight's OZ Lotto jackpot at $15 million and Powerball reaching $50 million on Thursday night, it certainly is an exciting week for WA Lotto players.

Tickets for the jackpot draws can be purchased by 6pm on the night of the draw from Lotterywest retailers or from Play Online at

In addition to the thousands of WA winners expected from both jackpots; an estimated $4.5 million is expected to be raised for the local community.

The Unit Committee TS Broome Incorporated received a $9,401 Lotterywest Grant earlier this month thanks to the proceeds from playing Lotterywest Games. This funding was towards equipment to support the youth development activities of the Broome Australian Navy Cadet Unit.
