Spur of the moment decision delivers WA couple $2.1 million Lotto win

3 December 2014

A last minute decision to buy a Lotto ticket has paid off for a married couple from Perth's northern suburbs who have walked away with a $2.1 million Division 1 prize.

The couple were at Swan Lotteries Kiosk in Bassendean and had already purchased a ticket for a different draw when the retailer mentioned the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.

"At first I said no thanks; we've already got one for another draw. But then something told me why not? I might as well give it a go. I'm glad I did," the man said.

"When the retailer confirmed my ticket was the winner I just shook at the knees. I'm still in shock. I would have been happy winning a $100 so this is just incredible. There are so many zeros to get my head around.!"

The married couple said helping their family financially and investments were some of their plans for the prize money.

We will keep working so life will remain normal, but it just takes the financial pressure off," they said.

WA's tally of Division 1 Lotto winners for the year has now reached 77. These winners have shared in prizes totalling $123 million.

Looking for your chance to win big? OZ Lotto has jackpotted to $20 million.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said if WA's run of big OZ Lotto winners this year was anything to go by, luck may just strike the State again next week.

Three WA players have taken home a Division 1 prize in OZ Lotto this year, including a Perth southern suburbs couple who collected $15 million in April.

Tickets for next week's $20 million OZ Lotto jackpot can be purchased from Lotterywest retailers or Play Online at until 6pm on Tuesday (9 December).
