Spotlight on Albany with Anzac commemorations and Division 1 Lotto win
WA has managed to produce the nation's only Division 1 Lotto winner from the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.
The lucky local has collected the entire Division 1 prize pool worth $4.2 million. The winning ticket was sold at Plaza Lotteries in Albany.
The Great Southern town is no stranger to Lotto luck and has now sold three Division 1 Lotto winning tickets so far this year. Luck started in January when a married couple from the town won $1.4 million after purchasing their ticket from Clark's Newsagency in Albany.
Then only last month another local couple from the town collected a $704,626 Division 1 prize after buying their winning ticket from Dog Rock Newspower.
Karen Casey from Plaza Lotteries which sold the weekend winning ticket said there had been a lot of hype and excitement surrounding the town today.
"It's the talk of the town at the moment. We're so happy we have had another big winner. I think the luck comes down to our local players who are always so optimistic and positive," she said.
WA's tally of Division 1 Lotto winners for the year has now reached 76. These winners have shared in prizes worth $120 million.
It's not just WA winners that benefit when they play lottery games, with Lotterywest directing 33 cents of each dollar spent on these games to support the WA community.
Community events to receive this support include the Anzac Albany Commemorations which took place last week. Albany welcomed thousands of visitors who took part in commemorations marking 100 years since the first convoy set sail from Albany carrying Australian and New Zealand troops to the First World War.
Lotterywest was the Presenting Partner of the Anzac Albany Commemorations, supporting the historic occasion with grants totalling $1.8 million to the City of Albany towards a program of community events and the redevelopment of the Albany Town Square and Stirling Terrace.
