Perfect start to the New Year after three WA players pick up Megadraw millions
Western Australia has welcomed its first big Lotto winners for the year after producing three Division 1 winning tickets, each worth $2 million, in tonight’s $30 million Megadraw.
Two of WA’s winning tickets were sold at South Terrace Newsagency in Fremantle and Warricks Newsagency in Northam, while the third was a 10 share syndicate created by Lotterywest with shares sold from ten different Lotterywest outlets across WA. Each share is worth just over $200,000.
The State’s winners shared in the $30 million Division 1 prize pool with 12 others from around the nation.
Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said it was a great result to see WA share in the multi-million dollar prize pool as there had been a lot of support by local players for the Megadraw.
“Tonight’s winners kick starts our Division 1 winners tally for 2016! Whether they realise they have struck Lotto luck yet, I’m sure this big win will provide them with a great start to the New Year,” she said.
Last year, WA produced a record 99 Division 1 Lotto winners who shared in $263 million worth of prizes. It’s the most in WA Lotto history. Ms Compagnone said tonight’s result could see Lady Luck return to our State in 2016.
260,302 other WA players won a prize in tonight’s Megadraw, including 23 people set to pocket a Division 2 prize worth $11,852.
Lotterywest encourages all players who bought tickets in tonight's Megadraw to check them for the winning numbers 40, 10, 31, 3, 45 and 44. The supplementary numbers were 38 and 37.
Tonight’s winners are not the only ones to benefit from the Megadraw; with players helping Lotterywest to raise an estimated $8 million to support the WA community.
Community groups to receive Lotterywest support include the Fremantle Multicultural Centre who were given a $39,750 Lotterywest Grant earlier this year towards emergency relief to support those experiencing financial hardship.
$70 million Powerball jackpot
WA players will have another chance to win big next Thursday, when Powerball’s equal largest jackpot in history goes on offer.
The $70 million Powerball jackpot is the result of no one across Australia being able to match the game’s six winning numbers plus the Powerball for the past seven weeks.
Players have until 6pm next Thursday to purchase their tickets in-store, through Play Online and the Lotterywest App.
