Mullaloo makes weekend Lotto winner
WA's tally of Division 1 Lotto winners this year climbs to 69 with the latest big winner from the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw purchasing their ticket from Mullaloo News and Lotteries.
The winning ticket is worth $829,361.68 and Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from the winner.
Manager of Mullaloo News and Lotteries Raffael Rousilihes said his outlet had sold eight major prizes in 20 years.
"Four of these have been Division 1 Lotto wins but this latest one has been our biggest. It's been 10 years since our last major win so this is great news," he said.
More than 80,000 other WA players picked up prizes in other Divisions on Saturday night, including eight locals who collected a Division 2 prize worth $9,226.
Meanwhile, a couple from Perth's southern suburbs has come forward today to claim a $3.3 million Division 1 prize from a Saturday Lotto draw held last month (20 September). The couple had been travelling overseas on holidays.
"We took off on holidays not long after buying the ticket. Towards the end of the trip we were talking about the ticket and felt certain we had won. Soon after, we checked the winning numbers and our thoughts were confirmed," they said.
The couple said while the multi-million dollar prize would provide them with extra financial security, they also planned on making donations to local community groups.
$50 million on offer this week
WA players will have their chance to win big in this Thursday's $50 million Powerball jackpot.
The jackpot draw is set to generate lots of excitement and interest in WA, with close to 700,000 tickets expected to be sold in WA.
"We expect it will be a very popular draw so we encourage players to get their tickets early. During our busiest hour on Thursday, Lotterywest terminals will be churning out 500 tickets each minute," said Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone.
Tickets for the $50 million Powerball jackpot are on sale until 6pm Thursday from Lotterywest retailers or Play Online at lwww.lotterywest.wa.gov.au
Over the six weeks of the Powerball jackpot roll, Lotterywest will raise an estimated $9 million for the WA community.
Local community groups to benefit from these funds include Whitford Church of Christ which received three grants totaling $52,000 over the last two years.
These grants have helped the group deliver a range of services such as support to locals experiencing financial hardship.
