Lotto luck strikes Cannington while Perth's southern suburbs winners celebrate with a swimming pool and bbq!

23 January 2012

One local Lotto player is set to pocket a $695,978 Division One prize after striking it lucky in the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.

The winning ticket was sold at Media Lottery Centre and News in Cannington.

Owner of the outlet Mr Tan Phan said there were lots of reasons to celebrate today.

"We're so happy to be celebrating the win on Chinese New Year! We thank all of our customers for their support and hope it goes to one of our regular players. This could be the start of a winning year for us," he said.

Meanwhile, two other Western Australian Lotto winners have come forward to claim their Division One prizes from earlier this month.

First into the Lotterywest winners room was a man in his 50s from Perth's southern suburbs.

The man, who picked up his $1 million prize after purchasing his ticket from Rockingham Central Lottery Centre for the 16 January Monday Lotto draw, said he didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he realised he had won.

"I was just in absolute shock, I have never experienced a feeling like it...it's simply amazing!" he said.

The man said the Lotto win had come after some very tough financial times.

"It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Life has changed for the better," he said.

Spending plans for the man included buying a new house with all the trimmings including a big swimming pool.

Following close behind to claim their $423,705 Division One prize from last Saturday's Lotto draw (14 January) was a family from Perth's southern suburbs.

The family, who purchased the winning ticket from The Lucky Charm News in Mirrabooka, said it was a weekend tradition to visit their mum and then buy their Lotto ticket.

"My mum's our lucky charm," the woman said.

The family said plans for their big Lotto win included buying a bigger home and a trip to Asia to visit family members. While on their trip, they also planned to deliver gifts to children in the orphanages.

The family said celebrations would kick off this Thursday with an Australia Day family barbeque.

The number of Division One winners in Western Australia this month has now reached seven. These winners have shared in $4.8 million of prize money.

It's not just our local winners that benefit from Lotto draws, so does the entire Western Australian community with 34 cents in every dollar spent on draws returned to local hospitals, sports and arts groups, and thousands of not-for-profit and charity groups across the State.

Last year, the Ishar Multicultural Women's Health Centre based in Mirrabooka received a $17,024 Lotterywest Grant to help purchase equipment and information technology for the centre which provides support services to multicultural women in Perth's northern suburbs.
