Premier Colin Barnett today announced the appointment of a new member to the Lotterywest board.
Miriam Borthwick who took up the appointment last month, is an experienced journalist, strategic communications and media relations professional with more than 25 years working in the media, government and corporate sectors.
She offers strategic communications consultancy services to a wide range of clients with diverse needs, including currently as senior media communications advisor to Western Power.
“Ms Borthwick brings extensive experience in the communications and media industry and has proved to be a strategic thinker who has developed effective and influential communications to a range of sectors including energy, health, education and indigenous affairs,” Mr Barnett said.
“In addition to providing clients in both public and private sectors with communications advice for the past 15 years, she is a highly regarded journalist and has worked as a senior television reporter, State politics reporter and political panellist for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.”
Ms Borthwick has a strong interest in the community sector and was appointed WA board president for the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of WA last year. She also has a long standing voluntary involvement mentoring young journalists and communications specialists through WA’s Women in Media forum.
The Premier also expressed his appreciation to outgoing board member Sheila Hood who concluded her position in December.
“Ms Hood has been on the Lotterywest board since 2010 and on behalf of the State Government and the community I’d like to recognise and thank her for the valuable contribution she has made,” Mr Barnett said.
