Family syndicate have 58 reasons to smile
A 58 member family syndicate from Western Australia's metro and South West regions are celebrating their Division One prize of over $600,000 from the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.
The family, who each contributed $2 to the syndicate, have been running syndicates as a family tradition for almost 20 years.
Three of the syndicate members entered the Lotterywest winners room to claim their new prize on behalf of the family.
They said sharing the winning feeling had been the best experience.
"We always put on a family syndicate when we come together for a family gathering. This is the best way you could ever win Lotto. It's just so magical to be able to share the same exciting feeling at the same time. We are all winners," they said.
"We can't wait to all come together to hug each other and celebrate the great news. We are just over the moon."
One of the family members, a woman from the South West, purchased the family's winning Slikpik 50 ticket from Manjimup Newsagency.
"After I got my son to verify I had checked off the correct six winning numbers, I told my husband and then rang around all the family," she said.
"The phone was running hot, everyone was so excited and we all just wanted to see each other to celebrate the news," the woman said.
The syndicate members, aged up to 89 years old, said the prize money would be used on a range of plans including home renovations, holidays, mortgage repayments and investments for the future.
"My father was in World War II, so I'll be using some of the money to walk the Kokoda Trail," one syndicate member said.
With Lotto players investing in their favourite game, 33 cents in every dollar spent on Lotterywest products is returned to the local community.
