Kwinana couple's million dollar surprise
A couple in their 40s from Kwinana have come forward to claim their $1 million fortune from the Wednesday Lotto draw.
The regular Lotto players said it was the first time they had purchased a ticket for the Wednesday Lotto draw.
"We have been playing Lotto for more than 15 years but we usually buy tickets for OZ Lotto, Powerball and Saturday Lotto," the man said.
"When I was doing my shopping on Wednesday I thought I might as well give tonight's Lotto draw a go and it delivered us a million dollars."
The couple, who purchased their winning Slikpik 25 ticket from Kwinana Hub Lottery Centre and News, scooped the entire $1 million Wednesday Lotto Division One prize pool.
Plans for the couple's new fortune included paying off their bills, sharing it with family and going on a holiday.
"Even the dogs will get a big pressie," the woman said.
Wednesday's winner has brought Western Australia's tally of 2010 Division One Lotto winners to 45. They've shared in more than $76 million in prize money
Lotto winners are not the only ones who benefit from Lotterywest games; 33 cents in every dollar spent is returned to Western Australian health, sports, the arts and a large number of charitable and community organisations.
This year, the Town of Kwinana benefited from a $5000 Lotterywest grant for costs associated with NAIDOC Week celebrations which were held earlier this month. The event provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians.
