Bunbury couple stunned at Saturday Lotto win

A retired couple from Bunbury have wasted no time coming forward to collect their $444,444 Division One prize from the Saturday Lotto draw.

The couple realised they were Lotto winners after watching the live telecast Saturday night and have been unable to sleep much since. They claimed their win at the Lotterywest Head Office today.

"We were just stunned and speechless, we didn't know whether to believe the news or not," the couple said.

"The first thing we did was ring a family member to double check the ticket with them and then we checked again online.

"We just thought this can't be real. Winning Division One in Lotto is something you only think happens to someone else."

The couple said their Slikpiks winning numbers also coincidently included their individual lucky numbers of 5 and 13.

The regular Lotto players purchased their winning Slikpik 12 ticket from Bunbury Centrepoint Lottery Centre and News.

Retail outlet owner Julie West said it was her first Division One win in the outlet since taking it over two and half years ago.

"No words can describe how happy I am, I'm over the moon," she said.

"I am so excited that the prize money has gone to a local winner and I hope this win puts Bunbury more and more on the map because it's a great town."

The couple said they would use the prize money on house renovations and share it with family.

"It will also help us to visit family interstate," they said.

32 cents of every dollar spent on Lotterywest games is returned to support Western Australian arts, sports, health and a large number of charitable and community organisations.

Last year, the Bunbury Regional Theatre benefited from a $67,000 Lotterywest grant to assist with a performance program for the Bunbury region.
