Wednesday Lotto creates Maylands millionaire

A Maylands Lotto player has become a millionaire over night after scooping a Division One prize worth $1 million in last night's Wednesday Lotto draw.

The winning ticket was purchased at Maylands Park Lottery Centre and News and was one of two Division One tickets sold nationwide.

Owner of the Newsagency Mr Victor Kong said he realised his outlet had sold the winning ticket when he arrived at his outlet early this morning.

"I was so happy and excited and all the customers have been congratulating me all morning," he said.

"I have a small Buddha in the store and like to rub customers' tickets on there for good luck.

"This is the fourth Division One winning ticket the outlet has sold in the eight years I have owned it."

Last night's win was the state's second Division One prize in Wednesday Lotto for 2010, with the other $1 million Division One win going to a Greenwood couple in an April draw.

32 cents of every dollar spent on Lotterywest games is returned to support Western Australian arts, sports, health and a large number of charitable and community organisations.

This includes a Lotterywest grant for $4875 which was provided to Maylands Historical and Peninsula Association to help with historical work in the area.
