Perth's southern suburbs celebrates Soccer Pools win

As excitement around the world heightens for the upcoming World Cup, Western Australia has already experienced a win with the state's first Division One prize of over $590,000 from the weekend's Soccer Pools draw.

A man in his 40's from Perth's southern suburbs wasted no time coming forward to claim the weekend win which he shared with two other national winners. The winners shared a jackpot valued at over $1.7 million, the highest Soccer Pools jackpot in two years.

The man said he checked his ticket online Monday afternoon and felt very pleased when he realised he was a Division One winner.

"I can now use the prize money to knock off the mortgage, as well as provide more financial support to charities including World Vision," he said.

In addition to looking forward to the next Soccer Pools jackpot, the man said he was happy to know that winners were not the only people to benefit from draws.

"You hope for a big win but when you don't, at least you know that the money is going to good causes in the local community," he said.

32 cents in every dollar spent on Soccer Pools goes directly back to the Western Australian community including health, sports, the arts and a number of not-for-profit organisations.

This includes a Lotterywest Grant of more than $2500 that was provided to the Combined Probus Club of Leeming for activity equipment to bring together seniors in the area.

April is Lotterywest Syndicates month

With the recent launch of Lotterywest Syndicates, Lotterywest shares a special syndicate moment.

One of Leeming's neighbouring suburbs, Coolbellup, played home to a Division One syndicate win of $400,000 in 2007.

The 13-person syndicate win were women friends aged between 60 and 80 years old, who purchased their winning ticket from Coolbellup Newsagency.

Splurging on a group holiday with all the syndicate members and visiting family interstate were just some of the plans the lucky ladies planned to spend their prize money on.

Lotterywest Syndicates are available for Monday, Wednesday and Saturday Lotto as well as OZ Lotto, Powerball and Soccer Pools at your local Lotterywest retailer.

Simply visit www.lotterywest.wa.gov.au or ask your local retailer for more information about Lotterywest Syndicates.
