Lotto fortunes shared amongst circle of friends
A South Perth couple have added their name to the 2010 Division One winners list after coming forward to claim over $1 million from the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.
Coincidently, the win came on the same day the couple bumped into friends who were previous Western Australian Division One winners in 2009.
"We met up with these friends on the day of draw, and then again on a separate occasion about half an hour before we found out we had won Division One. That's just amazing," the man said.
The couple, who have been playing Lotto for the past 15 years, purchased their winning ticket from Van Kim News and 8 Fresh Market in Kensington.
"Each week without fail, I purchase a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Slikpik 12 ticket from the same newsagent," the man said.
"I always had a feeling that we were going to win Lotto. We are very excited and it's still a bit unreal."
The couple said the first thing that came to mind when deciding how to spend their prize money, was sharing it with family.
"We might also splurge a bit and plan a trip overseas. We won't have to fly with our knees around our necks," the man said.
The couple said celebrations would start with a few bottles of French champagne, followed by hosting their close friends and family for the biggest party of all time.
Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the win not only benefited Western Australia's Division One winner, but the entire local community.
"Over $1.5 million raised from the Saturday Lotto draw will also be returned to the Western Australian community, including health, sports, arts and a large number of charitable and community groups," she said.
This includes supporting Fiesta 2010 which is currently being held at the South Perth foreshore.
The event, held from 21 February to 6 March, brings together an exciting mix of concerts, art programs, workshops and recreational activities.
Greenwood and Willagee Division One prizes still yet to be claimed
Meanwhile, Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from two Lotto players who are yet to come forward to claim their Division One prizes.
One outstanding ticket worth $444,444 was purchased in the Saturday Lotto draw on 6 February 2010 from Greenwood Lottery Centre & Newsagency. The other was purchased from Willagee Park Newsagency in the Saturday Lotto draw on 21 March last year and holds an $820,000 prize.
"We're eager to see these prizes go to their rightful owners before too long, so we encourage everyone who purchased a ticket in either of these draws to double check their numbers," Ms Compagnone said.
