‘Not fancy’ Dianella family claim $30 million OZ Lotto prize

29 December 2015

One week after the equal second largest Division 1 Lotto prize in WA’s history was won; the winners have unknowingly come forward to claim their $30 million OZ Lotto prize.

The family from Dianella thought it was strange they were whisked away into the Winners Room until they were told they were the multi-millionaires Lotterywest had been waiting for.

“This has completely blindsided me! We had absolutely no idea how much we’d won on our ticket, we were just told by a retailer that it would be a good idea to go to Head Office,” said the man.

Inside the Winners Room the man phoned his wife at work and asked her to guess how much would be deposited into their bank account. Every answer was met with ‘try a higher number’.

“I’m not really thinking anything at the moment except maybe I’ll wake up. The only thing I’ve won before this was a box of crabs!” laughed the man.

The regular Lotto players said it had been a hard year financially for their small business but this would certainly make up for it.

“I’ve always worked and worked and tried my hardest to get where I am. Everything was just out of reach but not anymore.” said the winner.

The family confessed they’re not fancy people but are excited they will now be able get the scratch on their son’s car fixed, send their mother on a cruise and upgrade from wearing $5 t-shirts.

“My wife always complains when we go on holidays because I book such cheap hotels, she’ll be stoked we can have the second worst hotel now,” said the man.

Over the weekend a two person work syndicate made it onto the Division 1 winners list from a ticket purchased at Whitford City Lottery Centre in Hillarys.

The work colleagues won on the forth last line on their ticket and are set to collect a $445,935 Saturday Lotto prize.

WA’s Division 1 winners tally for the year has now reached 99. These winners have shared in in almost $263 million in prizes.

It’s not only WA’s Lotto winners who benefit from Lotto draws, so does the local community with 34 cents out of every dollar spent on Lotterywest Games going back to support the WA community.

Maurice Zeffert Home located in Dianella, recently received some of the benefits from funds raised through the sale of Lotterywest Games with a $130,580 Lotterywest Grant earlier this year. These funds were used to help establish a Men's Shed and Day Centre located adjacent to the Maurice Zeffert Home Aged Care facility.

Combined $80 million of Lotto prizes on offer this week!

This week presents two big Lotto draws for players to try their luck at making it onto the exclusive Division 1 winners list.

After six weeks of jackpotting, Powerball has powered to $50 million this Thursday.

With 311,198 WA players already winning prizes over the game’s jackpot roll in Divisions 2 to 8, Lotterywest is hoping to add more winners to the list after this Thursday’s jackpot draw.

The New Year will also kick off with a bang when the largest Saturday Lotto event of the year offers a $30 million prize this Saturday, 2 January.

Tickets for Thursday’s Powerball jackpot and the $30 million Saturday Lotto Megadraw are available until 6pm on the day of the draw in-store, through Play Online and the Lotterywest App.
