$1.5 million WA Lotto ticket waits a month in a wallet

15 July 2016

Nearly four weeks have passed since two West Australian players won $1,571,428 each in the last Superdraw, however it wasn’t until today that the second winners entered the Lotterywest Winners Room.

The Ellenbrook couple said it was the new Aldi store that lured them to Belmont Forum Shopping Centre but as the line was so long they decided a Lotto ticket would be a better purchase.

“We noticed how many winning plaques Here’s Luck Lottery Centre had displayed so thought they might sell us a winner!” said the couple.

The ticket then remained unchecked in their wallet for almost a month.

“It wasn’t until weeks later that I remembered we even had the ticket and thought we should see how we went,” said the new millionaires.

“It was a real shock when we got to the very last line and all the numbers matched; I knew we’d just won Lotto. Then all I could think was that we needed to keep the ticket safe and get straight to Lotterywest!”

The couple’s house will now become more of a home with help from their winnings. After they’ve paid off some of their mortgage they intend to revamp their garden and kitchen.

Here’s Luck Lottery Centre in Cloverdale, which sold the winners their ticket, have sold more than 20 Division 1 winning Lotto tickets since 2000. Those winners have shared in over $42 million in prize money.

It’s not just Lotto winners that benefit from Lotterywest Games, with Lotterywest directly distributing money raised from its lottery products back to the WA community to support not-for-profit organisations.

Local groups to receive this support include Woodlake Playgroup Incorporated in Ellenbrook who received a $4,384 Lotterywest Grant last month to support the purchase of toys and furniture.
