Beldon Newsagency bags a win

They’re used to producing Lotto winners but at the 2017 ALNA WA Awards for Excellence retailers got a chance to bag a win of their own.

There were plenty of winners and grinners on the night – and even a few misty-eyed moments – as retailers were recognised for their hard work.

And for Corrine Squire and Danny Humbles from Beldon Newsagency, who won the  Lotterywest Lottery Retailer Award, the surprise left them, quite literally, speechless!

“We hadn’t prepared a speech or anything,” Danny said.

“We were so shocked and surprised to win – Corrine even had a bit of a cry,” he added.

The couple, who have achieved exceptional sales during their almost two years in business, say it’s their strong ties to the local community that give them the winning edge.

“A lot of people around here know us and like to have a chat,” Danny said.

“They even come from as far as Cannington and Bindoon to see us and purchase syndicate shares from us,” he added.

Though this auspicious evening has wrapped up for another year, Danny said he plans to keep the celebrations going.

“We’re going to put on a morning tea at the store to thank our regular customers,” he said.

“We wouldn’t have won without them,” he added.

Congratulations also go out to Julie and Stephen Lucas from Australind News and Post for taking out the Best New Newsagent Award and to Theo Popis and Jason Roberts from The Lucky Charm Noranda for winning the Retail Newsagent of the Year Award.
