WA kick-starts New Year with $40 million OZ Lotto jackpot

It might be the end of Megadraw madness for another year but Lotterywest is hoping Western Australia’s winning streak will continue well into the New Year – starting with tonight’s $40 million OZ Lotto jackpot.

While WA ended 2017 with 70 Division 1 winners sharing in an incredible $130 million in prizes – the first big jackpot of the year is already creating anticipation amongst local players with Lotterywest retailers reporting a busy start to jackpot day.

Forrestfield Marketplace News was one of the five lucky WA stores to sell a $1.4 million winning ticket in the weekend’s Megadraw and owner Fred Geb said things were heating up.

“The good news is spreading fast and it’s going to be a crazy one in-store,” Fred said.

“This is the 14th big win our store has delivered in the last 14 years,” he added.

“At one stage we had three in 12 months and while we’ve had a little break over the last couple of years - we’re back!”

While Lotterywest is hoping tonight will kick-start the State’s 2018 tally of Division 1 Lotto winners – players will have another chance to win big on Thursday when a $35 million Powerball jackpot is offered.

Tickets are available from Lotterywest in-store, online or by downloading the app until 6pm draw day.

It’s not just local winners who benefit from playing Lotterywest games so does the entire WA community – this week’s jackpots are expected to raise a combined $4 million to support WA's health, sports and arts sectors as well as hundreds of not-for-profit groups.

Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from WA’s five $1.4 million Megadraw winners.
