WA secures $6 million Powerball windfall

It won’t be a case of the winter blues for one lucky punter after it was revealed Western Australia produced the nation’s only Division 1 winning ticket in tonight’s Powerball draw.

The winning ticket scooped the country’s entire prize pool of $6 million and was sold at Carousel Lottery Centre & News in Cannington.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Chloe Lawler said it was the third highest Lotto windfall experienced by the State so far this year.

“2017 has now produced 41 Division 1 winners who have shared in almost $100 million in prize money,” Ms Lawler said.

“Almost 30,000 other Western Australians also took out a prize in tonight’s Powerball, including one lucky local who is set to pocket almost $130,000 in Division 2 prize money,” she added.

Ms Lawler said the windfall also marked the second Division 1 winning ticket sold by the Cannington store in less than six months.

“They say lightning never strikes twice but Carousel Lottery Centre & News has defied the odds,” she said.

“Back in February the store produced a Division 1 Saturday Lotto ticket worth over $2 million,” she added.

The WA community has also won big this evening with about one third of every dollar spent on Lotterywest products returned to the State.

The winning numbers in tonight’s draw were 30, 38, 6, 9, 22 and 19. The Powerball was 10.
