WA player picks up 1st Prize in Set For Life

One lucky Perth punter is waking up to news they’ll receive $20,000 a month across the next 20 years after it was revealed Oxford News in Leederville produced a 1st Prize Set For Life ticket overnight.

The windfall marks Western Australia’s first Set For Life winner for 2017 and the State’s fifth winner since the game was launched.

While Lotterywest eagerly waits to hear from the lucky winner, Oxford News owner Bin Qi said the celebrations had already began.

“$20,000 per month across 20 years is something else,” Mr Qi said.

“Customers have been lining up outside of our store since early this morning all hoping they hold the winning ticket,” he added.

Mr Qi said the win was the talk of Leederville.

“I was lining up getting my morning coffee and everyone was talking about it,” Mr Qi said.

“I wanted to pop the champagne then and there but my business partner is making me hold off until at least after lunch,” he laughed.

With one third of every dollar spent on Lotterywest products returned to the community, the organisation’s spokeswoman Chloe Lawler said it was important to remember even if you didn’t have a win you helped WA have one of a different kind.

“Thanks to locals playing games like Set For Life, last financial year we were able to return $265 million to the State,” Ms Lawler said.

“That includes WA’s hospitals, sporting and arts and cultural groups as well as over 760 not-for-profit organisations and local government authorities,” she added.

Set for Life draws take place every night of the week, 365 days of the year. If won, there are up to four guaranteed 1st Prizes of $20,000 a month for 20 years in every Set for Life draw.
