Another WA Lotto millionaire ahead of first new Powerball draw

Western Australia has produced another millionaire overnight, just ahead of tonight’s first draw to incorporate new features to Powerball which will see the game deliver bigger jackpots and more winners.

WA’s Division 1 winning ticket, worth $1 million from last night’s Wednesday Lotto draw, was sold from Causeway Newsagency in Victoria Park. It’s the fourth Division 1 Lotto ticket produced across the State since Saturday.

Meanwhile, the countdown is on to tonight’s $ 8 million Powerball jackpot draw.

Changes launched to the game last Friday have supercharged it, cementing Powerball as Australia’s most powerful jackpotting lottery game.

Harvey Newsagency located in the State’s South West was the Lotterywest store to sell the first ticket into tonight’s new Powerball game.

The store is no stranger to multi-million dollar Lotto luck after producing WA’s second largest Lotto prize of $40 million in 2016.

“We still have the reputation of being lucky in Lotto and fingers crossed we can live up this reputation and make another multi-millionaire soon – maybe even tonight,” owner of the Harvey store, Trish Forward, said.

“We’ve had plenty of interest in the new Powerball game, so let’s hope one of those players gets lucky tonight,” she added.

Tickets into tonight’s Powerball jackpot will be available until 6pm from Lotterywest retailers’ in-store, online or through the app.

Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from last night’s millionaire as well as three Division 1 Lotto winners from the weekend.

They include two Saturday Lotto winners who each took home just over $580,000. These tickets were purchased from Shamrock Newsagency in the Perth CBD and Merriwa Plaza Newsagency.

A Super66 ticket, worth over $33,000 sold from Nextra Dianella Newsagency, also remains unclaimed.

When you play with Lotterywest, a majority of the funds spent on tickets go back to the people of WA through prizes and grants.

Tonight’s Powerball draw is expected to raise close to a million dollars to support the WA community through Lotterywest grants.

Powerball fast facts:
To deliver bigger jackpots and more winners the following three changes have been made to Powerball:

•    A change to the game matrix – players now choose seven winning numbers from 35 in the first barrel and one Powerball number from 20 in the Powerball barrel.
•    An increase in the number of prize divisions from eight to nine. The odds of picking up a Powerball prize have now improved from 1 in 78 to 1 in 44.
•    A price increase of 25 cents - the first since 2013 and only the fifth in 20 years.
