Twice as nice: WA produces two weekend Lotto winners

Two punters from Western Australia are starting the new financial year with a bang after it was revealed the State produced its 32nd and 33rd Division 1 Lotto winners for 2017 across the weekend.

The Saturday Lotto tickets were sold at Candlewood Village Newsagency in Joondalup and via Lotterywest Play Online and are worth almost half a million dollars each.

Lotterywest spokesperson Chloe Lawler said it seemed the northern suburbs were on a roll with a woman from the City of Joondalup also coming forward to claim her second Scratch’n’Win top prize in less than three months.

“Not only has Joondalup produced a Division 1 Lotto winner across the weekend but last week we had a local claim her second Scratch’n’Win top prize,” Ms Lawler said.

“Three months ago she won $100,000 on a Word Play scratchie and last week she did it all over again pocketing an additional $100,000,” she added.

Ms Lawler said the woman’s chances of winning a top prize were one in 100,000.

“And she’s managed to do it twice,” she said.

“Needless to say she was in some amount of shock as she took the once in a lifetime walk to the Lotterywest winner’s room - for the second time,” she added.

Ms Lawler said punters who missed out across the weekend would have another chance to win big tomorrow ahead of OZ Lotto’s massive $40 million jackpot.

“Tomorrow will see the equal highest jackpot for OZ Lotto this year,” Ms Lawler said.

“Our retailers will be churning out almost 400 tickets per minute during peak periods,” she added.

Ms Lawler said the five week long OZ Lotto jackpot roll would also generate around $5 million for the WA community.

“When you purchase Lotterywest products, one third of every dollar you spend is returned to benefit the community,” she said.

“Most recently we were able to provide $90,000 to this year’s Joondalup Festival – bringing the local community together in celebration and to participate in a range of free family friendly activities,” she added.

Tickets for the $40 million OZ Lotto jackpot are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, through Play Online or by downloading the Lotterywest app.
