Talk of the town: Northam friends claim $1.3 million Lotto win

Three lifelong friends from Northam have come forward to claim last weekend’s Saturday Lotto windfall of more than $1.3 million.

The ladies – all aged in their 50s – said the town was buzzing after news broke that a Division 1 winning ticket was sold at the local newsagent.

“We purchased the ticket from Northam Central Newsagency as we have done every Saturday for the last five years,” one member of the trio said.

“Next thing I knew I was frantically ringing the girls to tell them that we’d won the Lotto,” she added.

Another member of the trio said she was washing the dishes as she took the call.

“She demanded I sit down and shut up before exclaiming that we’d won the lottery,” the woman said.

“I wish I had of listened because I kept doing the dishes and dropped my phone in the sink out of shock,” she laughed.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the win marked the 27th Division 1 ticket produced by Western Australia so far this year.

“We’re hoping the Lotto luck will continue into the weekend with Saturday’s $21 million Superdraw just around the corner,” Ms Compagnone said.

“Here’s to hopefully meeting another lucky local in the winner’s room come Monday,” she added.

Ms Compagnone said the $21 million Saturday Superdraw was expected to raise close to $4 million for the WA community.

“It’s important to remember that even if you don’t have a win you’re still contributing to the things that make WA great,” she said.

“One third of every dollar spent on lottery products is returned to not-for-profit and community organisations around the State,” she added.

Punters have until 6pm on draw day to purchase tickets from Lotterywest in-store, via Play Online or by downloading the app.
