Canning Vale family claim Lotto prize, $60M jackpots heat up

On the same day as the $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot, Lotterywest has welcomed one of two outstanding Western Australian Division One winners from the weekend.

A struggling family from Canning Vale has collected the first $672,883 prize - their winning Saturday Lotto ticket purchased from Market City Lotteries & News in Canning Vale.

“We really needed this; it couldn’t have come at a better time. It will get us back on track to become more financially stable,” one family member said.

The sporadic players said it was only two weeks ago the husband of the family had a strong feeling towards some lucky numbers and decided to commit to playing them weekly.

“I was confident a win was going to come but my wife was a little more sceptical,” he said.

While Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from WA’s second Division One winner, excitement is building with a combined $60 million worth of jackpots on offer over the next three days.

It all starts with tonight’s $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot and if recent history is anything to go by, WA could be in with a good chance.

WA has produced two multi-million dollar OZ Lotto wins in the last three months – a $10 million prize in March and another worth $7.5 million in May.

Owner of newsXpress Centrepoint Midland, Paul Kirwan, sold the $10 million winning ticket and said today was set to be a busy trading day.

“Things always pick up on jackpot day with lots of our customers wanting a piece of the action,” he said.

“Since the big win, we’ve built a reputation of being a lucky Lotto store and we’ve had lots of new faces visit us from far and wide to purchase a ticket.”

Excitement is set to continue this Thursday when another $30 million jackpot will be offered for Powerball.

Tickets are available until 6pm draw day from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.

When you play Lotterywest games, the money stays in WA. Both the OZ Lotto and Powerball jackpot rolls are set to raise a combined $6.5 million to support the WA community.
