South West and Kimberley revealed as WA’s scratchie hot spots

Lotterywest has crunched the numbers for 2017-18 and the results are in - $723* million has been returned to Western Australian players in lottery prizes and grants.

Included in the count are 58 Scratch’n’Win Top Prize winners, who shared in over $5 million in prizes alone.

Lotterywest has revealed regional WA as holding some of the State’s scratchie hot spots.

“We’ve seen the regional areas produce big winners on our Scratch’n’Win tickets time and time again,” said Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone.

“The South West finished on top with three Top Prize wins totalling a combined $420,000 in prizes.”

“This was closely followed by the Kimberly which sold two Top Prizes totalling $350,000.”

Owners of Donnybrook Newsagency, located in the State’s South West, sold one of these Top Prizes worth $300,000 in May.

Owner of the store Angelo Logiudice said he was delighted to find out his store had sold a second Top Prize in two years.

“We’ve not sold anything this big in a while, so it was fantastic news,” he said.

“We do have a lucky Buddha in our store, but I think Donnybrook is the good luck charm,” he added.

“We always enjoy telling our customers about how local grants have benefited our community and put them up on our message board so customers can see for themselves.”

Regional WA seems to be striking it lucky on one particular ticket on the market - $500 Frenzy.

“This $3 ticket is giving away 500 Top Prizes worth $500,” Ms Compagnone said.

“Although only a quarter of these Top Prizes have been won, a lot of them have been won in the State’s regional locations.”

“In fact there have been five $500 Frenzy Top Prizes in the South West, four in the Goldfields, three each in the Peel and Mid-West, two in the Great Southern, and finally one each in the Kimberley and Wheatbelt areas,” she added.

Ms Compagnone said 300 of these Top Prizes were still up for grabs.

It’s not just lottery winners that benefit when you play Lotterywest games – so does the entire WA community.

In 2017-18, Lotterywest announced over $463 million given back to WA lottery winners and $260 million given back to the WA community in grants.

These grants included one to the Bunbury Regional Theatre who received $114,000 from Lotterywest to help disadvantaged people in the community participate and have access to performing arts access in the South West region.

Lotterywest will host an upcoming grants information session at the Theatre on Thursday 26 July. You can find more out more here.
