Premier launches FRINGE WORLD

Premier Mark McGowan has officially launched FRINGE WORLD - Western Australia's biggest festival of its kind and the third largest fringe festival in the world.

The 2018 festival runs from January 26 to February 25 and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of people across the four-week period.

The month-long event features more than 750 low-cost and free performances and cultural experiences happening in almost 130 venues across WA.

With the additional $1.87 million of State Government funding, through Lotterywest, the State Government's support of FRINGE WORLD has been in excess of $6 million since 2011.

The additional grant support will see the delivery of FRINGE WORLD continue in 2019, with a further $350,000 contributed by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"FRINGE WORLD has become a highlight of the summer calendar for hundreds of thousands of Western Australians.

"It has helped put thousands of talented WA artists on the international map as it showcases everything from comedy and cabaret, to circus, theatre and visual arts.

"I'd encourage everyone to make the most of the balmy summer nights and enjoy the spectacular array of cultural experiences brought to you by FRINGE WORLD.

"The State Government, through Lotterywest, is proud to be able to support the delivery of FRINGE in 2018 and 2019 by way of a $1.87 million grant.

"A further $350,000 is also contributed by the State through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries."
