Minted millionaires celebrate with $8 bottle of champers

A couple from Padbury has come forward to claim almost $1 million in Saturday Lotto prize money almost 10 days after the draw.

The winning ticket was purchased at Padbury News & Post and contributes to the 38th Division 1 win for Western Australia so far this year with punters now sharing in over $92 million in prize money.

The couple – aged in their 70s – said the windfall capped off what has been a pretty tough life.

“When you’ve battled your whole life you don’t expect something like this to happen,” the husband said.

“Our first purchase will be an around the world plane ticket to cross a few things off our bucket list,” he added.

When asked how they would celebrate, the wife said they had already popped two bottles of $8 champagne.

“Some things will never change – we’ll always be battlers,” the wife said.

“We wouldn’t know the difference between fancy champagne and the $8 bottle anyway,” she added.

The claim by the couple comes just ahead of WA making another instant millionaire overnight after a Division 1 winning ticket was produced at Mundijong IGA.

Store owner Nancy Gangemi said she was delighted to have potentially changed the life of one lucky local.

“This is the first Division 1 win for our store,” Ms Gangemi said.

“Certainly we hope the Lotto luck continues with the $20 million Saturday Superdraw only days away,” she added.

It’s expected almost 750,000 tickets will be sold in the lead up to the Superdraw.

Punters have until 6pm on Saturday to purchase tickets in-store, through Play Online or by downloading the Lotterywest app.
